Challenges in Switching Between Evernote & OneNoteĮvernote & OneNote take two very different approaches to note-taking. But this is easier said than done as anyone who’s made this change knows all too well. It took a long time, but I finally decided it was in my best interest to switch back from Evernote to OneNote. This got me to play with OneNote a bit more, specifically the sketching capabilities. Thanks to a surprise windfall of cash as a better alternative to running Windows in a virtual machine. As someone who’s on MacOS & iOS, the pen support on an iPad just stinks outside of the iPad Pro.
I was also frustrated with the lack of good sketching capabilities. However, over the last year or so I became frustrated with Evernote’s lack of an API, integration with third parties (see: lack of an API) and the downward trend of the company with numerous reports of layoffs. Over time I adopted a great workflow for keeping track of todo’s and taking notes with Evernote that worked great for me ( GTD - Get Organized and be More Productive using The Secret Weapon & Evernote).

Office 365 gives you OneNote, plus all the Office apps you know and love that are always up to date, and 1 TB of cloud storage.Īpple also made migrating from Evernote to its own Notes app possible with a new import option on OS X 10.11.4 and iOS 9.3 earlier this year. Microsoft is also pitching that Evernote’s premium service costs the same as its Office 365 subscription which includes productivity apps:įollowing Evernote’s recent price changes-their Premium offer ($69.99/year) is now the same price as Office 365 Personal ($69.99/year). The pitch here is that OneNote is available on the web, Mac, iPhone, iPad, and even Apple Watch without charging a mult-device premium. Microsoft says that so far 71 million pages have been imported from Evernote to OneNote since March, and now the importer tool is available on the Mac.
Now Microsoft has responded with a new import tool that lets OneNote users pull in content from Evernote. While the move was clearly intended to make Evernote’s business more sustainable, reaction from a lot of vocal users was to switch from Evernote to OneNote or Apple Notes. Earlier this summer Evernote limited the free tier of its note-taking service to use on just two devices while raising prices for its paid plans.
